It’s day 3 and the sun is out. After 20 miles we stopped at Thiepval, the site where 19,000 Allied soldiers died and 35,000 more were injured on just one day at the battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916.
It was another reminder of just how lucky I am to be born in peace time. And we had a great day. It wasn’t so hilly, and the rolling hills and beautiful little villages were lovely to pass through. Leon managed to take Matt and I on a 7 mile detour but we loved the smooth roads and interesting views as we worked to get back to the route. I smashed the last 20 miles in one hour. Lovely downhills demanded it. Bring on Paris!!!
